For New Patients: What to expect on your first visit

For your first acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, or massage appointment you are asked to arrive 15-20 minutes early to complete the patient registration paperwork. The first two pages of this paperwork are available for download on this website. For directions to my office please call or look at the direction/ location page.

The first acupuncture session normally lasts 1 ½ hours. During the first half of the session we will discuss any present health concerns you may have and will complete a detailed intake of your health history. After the intake we will create a treatment plan for reaching your health goals and you will receive an acupuncture treatment. This consists of using hair fine needles to stimulate specific points that have been selected for you as a result of the information collected in the interview process. The acupuncture needles used in this practice are sterilized needles that are not reused. Most patients consider acupuncture to be very relaxing and painless. You may feel a brief sensation like an ache, heaviness, or warmth. Moxa, a warming herb, is sometimes burned on or near acupuncture points to stimulate the point energetically, add warmth to an area, or to calm the spirit. In addition to acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutrition, and exercise advice may be given. Return acupuncture visits are typically 1 hour.

The first Chinese Herbal Medicine session without acupuncture normally lasts 1 hour. This consists of a detailed intake of your health concerns and history. At the end of the session Chinese herbs will be prescribed and we will put together a customized treatment plan for you. Return Chinese Herbal Medicine visits typically last ½ hour.

Massage Therapy visits normally last 1 hour.
